Being a Black Man is not easy in this world, especially in the times in which we live. We have been broken down, beaten, de-humanized and humiliated for the majority of our memorable past and as a result have lost our way as men. When you lose your way as a man, you also lose your ability to be a protector, provider, leader, guide and teacher. But the protector, provider, leader, guide and teacher of what or who?… The Black Woman!!!
The Black Woman has suffered and continues to do so and is now left to fend for herself in ways that she was not created to do. She is now the head of household and responsible for protecting herself (both mentally/emotionally and physically) working, paying the bills, rearing and raising the children and so much more. All the while; navigating her way through a society that has reduced her to a tool for sexual gratification. (Rather it be visually or physically) Then to top it all off, she has to try and find some sort of happiness or joy for herself. These burdens have all but stripped her of the knowledge of her Real and True nature.
Now, as each generation slips by and nothing or no one seems to be able to lift this cloud of confusion from being her reality, more and more of our women have began to identify with this modern role of The Black Woman and accept the new stereotype as true of herself. When she accepts this truth for herself, (being the first teacher of our children) she accepts and projects this off onto them, all the while not even realizing it; which in turn perpetuates this cycle of abnormality on generation after generation and this in turn becomes all of our realities.
So while she is caring for the Man, the children and the home, who is caring for her? Who is making her feel appreciated, cared for and loved?
Neglect and mistreatment of this magnitude causes her to grow resentful, depressed and even angry; and as a result we judge her by her reactions to life and never ask what is the cause behind this effect that we are judging so harshly? Why is the goddess and Queen of the UNIVERSE behaving so far outside of her peaceful, nurturing and loving nature?
This will be a continuous blog/conversation and I welcome comments and even criticism because both will create a much needed dialogue. I’ll add to it every Sunday until I reach the climax of it and bring to light some things that we know, but don’t realize that we know; and in doing so, bring about real and viable solutions for us as a whole to begin healing our family units and communities. I’ll leave you with a quote and an accompanying thought…
“A nation can rise no higher than its woman” Elijah Muhammad (Founder of N.O.I.)
If this quote be true, then how high can we expect to rise as a Black Nation or community if we don’t first uplift our women?
Until next Sunday

“The voice of my generation“
Well said…. No doubt I’ll support you!! This is definitely needed and I appreciate you for doing it!! Looking forward to next Sunday!
Thank you Karnise and I’m ready to tackle seldom discussed issues. Some things get talked about too much and others not enough. I want to balance the scales…
That was a great read. Well said. You have my attention and I’d be honored to support and be a part of.
Very good topic with excellent points made. I’d love to see more. You are doing a fine job and I’m proud to see this from one of our very own!
This is very deep, and it really hit home. This is right on point, and an eye opener.
When discussing how roles in the black family have become what they are I must suggest that both black man and woman read How to Make a Slave by William Lynch. We have been forced into roles that are incorrect. As black women we need our black men and vise versa. It saddens my heart to hear a black woman say I don’t need a man. BUT we do NEED our men. Our men have been taken from us leaving us to figure too many unknown sistuations out. This is causing generations of black men and women to continue to despise one another.
I LOVE this topic and see the definite need for discussion. I will post each time.
Great work SS, great work!!!!
This is a sad reality we face. Refreshing to know men are slowly recognizing this within our community. Our women need our men…period! Without the head, the body will go astray as it has.
Share…you have truly captured the essence of the black woman. Continue to educate, enlighten and enpower!
Awesome read and I am deeply saddened that this is now our reality….. looking forward to next weeks read !
This is a powerful word and so true. It’s deep in knowledge , pain and long suffering for our people.
